Currently semi-retired and working part-time for People, Incorporated.
Previously worked for Ramsey County from June 1976 to November 2006 (at St Paul-Ramsey Medical Center from 1976 until January 1984 & at R.C. Community Human Services from January 1984 until November 2006)
Prior to that, I worked for Family Service of St Paul from July 1970 to May 1976.
I have two grown children (Dawn, born 1971 and working as a free-lance literary editor, and Eric, born 1973 and working as an electrical engineer) who live in Indiana and New Mexico respectively.
In addition to my lovely wife, I share my home with Dexter the Wonder Dog (a terrier mix---you look at him and wonder what kind of dog he is).
I love to go fishing with Jan, to play on-line poker, to walk at least a mile or two per day, to read, to watch "Netflix,"
During my working life, I was proud to
1) Refer the parent of a client to the Minnesota Disabilities Law Project in order to create the Vulnerable Adult/Adult Protection Law for Minnesota. I suggested that we need a law which required doctors to report suspected abuse of vulnerable adults to the police in the same way that they were required to report suspected child abuse,
2) Create a residential options list for Developmentally Disabled adults and children and to distribute updates throughout Minnesota (to interested social workers, family, etc.) at no charge to them. It became known as "Clif's List" and was relied upon for exploring out-of-home placement options during the 1990's. When job functions changed, I was able to interest another organization in creating a website to fill the void and improve upon the technology available to me,
3) Plan, organize and facilitate the building of a home for four severely developmentally disabled males in northern Ramsey County (where the home was designed by the family and case managers of the residents AND THE HOME WAS OWNED BY A TRUST AND NOT A CORPORATION so that, if the residents' families and case managers became dissatisfied with the in-home service provider, they could hire a different provider rather than having to move out of the home,
4) Participate in the development of the legislation that funded regional crisis response coordination programs to help dually diagnosed (Mentally Ill and Developmentally Disable) persons remain in the community rather than being shipped back to the state hospitals, and
5) Co-found the Metropolitan Adult Maltreatment Consortium (along with Linda White, the prime mover) which brought together Vulnerable Adult Investigators and Adult Protection Social Workers to discuss issues and projects relating to protecting Vulnerable Adults.
